![]() ![]() In any event, having used both the SafeClamps and the Van Guard ladder clamps (which are the more traditional "massive wing-nut on a threaded rod" style) for a while I think I prefer the Van Guard type anyway - the SafeClamps might look a bit smarter with the moulded resin casing and all that, but from a practical point of view I found it's easy to put them on too tight and they can then be a right bugger to release. not for the recall itself (that sort of thing is unfortunate, and could potentially happen to any manufacturer) but for the way they handled it. I'm personally avoiding dealing with Rhino in future where possible. They came with an accompanying letter saying the "drive plate issue that caused the recall" has been resolved now and the new design has been tested by an independent testing house. So well done to them for actually sending them out (wasn't convinced I was ever going to hear from them again, to be honest!). Quick update on this: I received a package containing a pair of new SafeClamps from Rhino today to replace the faulty pair, together with instructions for returning the faulty ones via freepost (which I'll drop off at the post office tomorrow). ![]() Hopefully Chez will beat me to it and spare us all that torture. I may dust off the cine camera and work out how to connect it to t'internet though. Still pondering whether I'm feeling bold enough to do little youtube mini-review at some point - feel like I probably should, but doing that sort of thing isn't really my cup of tea. I'm gonna get them on the van tomorrow, but they look like they'll do exactly what they're meant to. They're supplied with two iron padlocks with 3 keys for each. I've literally only just taken them out of the box, but initial impressions are that they look as sturdy as you like, with nubs at either end of the bars to accommodate ladders up to 14.5" wide without them sliding about horizontally. No prizes for guessing which company I'll be buying my van gear from in future. Massive thanks to Andy Woodward from Van Guard for sending these out FoC to me, and for picking up the slack left my Rhino's somewhat ropey approach to customer service. VanGuard1.jpg (94.37 KiB) Viewed 7634 times I already have a set of Van Guard roof bars, so the ladder clamp will go a treat with them If your generous offer still stands, I'd definitely like to take you up on it. They missed an opportunity to take the initiative to turn an unfortunate situation into a positive one and create some goodwill into the bargain, as you've done for Van Guard instead Seems like they're doing the bare minimum legally necessary as far as I can tell, and making it my problem. It's Rhino's attitude and approach to dealing with it that stinks IMO. Yep, I couldn't agree more about the recall - it is unfortunate, but I appreciate that products can suffer issues and occasionally recalls are necessary. I hope this is ok with you, your colleagues on this forum and the moderators as we are not looking to take advantage of this message board.Īndy, that's very generous of you indeed. I have to make the point that this offer is a gesture of goodwill to you personally and for understandable reasons nobody else on this forum or generally. We will supply you with one of our ladder clamps FOC if you contact me direct Removed mod 2. Whilst we would not wish the problems associated with a product recall on anybody, customer service is a whole other issue.
